The Congressional hearings and other
documents on the above lists may be obtained by calling the
GPO Congressional Sales Office (202-512-2470/71) or purchasing
them at the Congressional Sales Book Store, 710 North Capitol
Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. The GPO stock number listed
for each item facilitates the ordering process, but it is not
printed on the document itself or normally used in library
catalogs. Each Congressional committee documents clerk will
also have copies of newly issued hearings and committee prints
for that committee and they are usually able to send a free
copy to those requesting.
The week by week listing of newly issued
Congressional documents for sale by the GPO is transcribed
from the twice daily GPO telephone recording (202-512-1809)
on the same day. Since May of 1998, volunteers from the
LLSDC's Legislative Research SIS have been transcribing these
recorded lists. Before that time Congressional Quarterly's "Congress
in Print" newsletter provided a similar service but it
has since ceased publication. As an added bonus at the end
of each weekly listing is attached a list of newly enacted
public laws taken from PENS-L, an e-mail service of the Office
of the Federal Register.
Please note that links to GPO Access
pages and committee PDF versions are provided when full-text
equivalents are available. Links to House transcripts do not
reflect the final printed or electronic GPO product and are
included as a courtesy for purchase decisions only. Please
also note that some GPO Access text files are incomplete; TIFF
images of tables, prepared statement memos, and bills, are
often excluded.
Emily Carr of the Law Library of Congress
is now the LLSDC volunteer most responsible for transcribing
the weekly listings (with recent help from Debbie Atkins, Samantha Mendell, and Rick McKinney) and placing them
on the LLSDC's Internet home page.
Questions and comments may
be directed to Margot Gee, the
Legislative Research SIS President.
